What Does it Mean to be a Carbon Balanced Printer

As part of our commitment to sustainability, we at Hartgraph take steps to balance our carbon footprint regularly. Understanding how these schemes work can be confusing, so we want to shed some light on the process. Every two years, we conduct an emissions audit, gathering all necessary information about our carbon footprint. This data is then analysed by Carbon Co, which helps us determine the amount needed to offset our carbon usage through the World Land Trust (WLT). From August 1, 2024, to July 31, 2025, our contributions will help protect 21,660 square meters of critically threatened tropical forest. But why focus on protecting existing forests instead of planting new ones?

Recently, the topic of conversation in our office was the difference between "carbon captured paper" and "carbon balanced paper", what we realised was that although the scientific distinction between these terms is very different, it’s use within the paper industry is not very clear. We found that in the paper industry, they are sometimes used interchangeably.
